GRAND RAPIDS, MI—On March 6, 2025, four Kregel titles were announced as finalists in the 2024 Foreword INDIES awards.

Adult Fiction

This Ain't No Promised Land, Tina Shelton's debut novel, is a finalist in Multicultural and follows a trio of abandoned sisters relying on their close-knit black community in 1980s South Side Chicago. "With stellar storytelling skills, Tina Shelton reminds us that while love isn't always enough to erase the hurts, it's the only way to survive them. A powerful read!" (Julie Cantrell).

Something Borrowed by Allison Pittman, Rachel Scott McDaniel, and Susie Finkbeiner is a finalist in Religious. In this novella collection, three Christian historical fiction authors trace generations of wartime romances through a wedding dress. "A captivating collection of stories . . . each rich in intriguing historical details, vividly drawn characters, and heart-stirring emotional resonance" (Amanda Barratt).

Where Trees Touch the Sky by Karen Barnett is also a finalist in Religious. The beautifully crafted split-time novel is set against the majestic backdrop of a beloved national park. In the 1920s, nature-loving Marion Baker throws herself headlong into the work of the Save the Redwoods League, while nearly fifty years later, her great niece, polio survivor June Turner, is determined to prove herself as a ranger at the Redwood National Park despite her disability.

Adult Nonfiction

One Body, One Spirit by B. Jason Epps and Paul Pettit is a finalist in Religion. One in four people in the United States lives with a disability, which led Epps and Pettit to address how the church can be more inclusive. They offer biblically informed solutions to issues involving both physical and emotional barriers that disabled individuals face when seeking a church community.

Kregel Publications is pleased to congratulate all these finalists. The full list of finalists is on the Foreword website, which can be found here.
